Prudhoe Cadets help Poppy Appeal at the Metro Centre and raise nearly £ 6000.

Prudhoe Detachment were recently received the affiliation to the local Prudhoe Branch of The Royal British Legion, and the Branch secretary asked if the cadets would like to collect for them at the Metro Centre. The cadets from Northumbria ACF were asked to staff 3 locations at the Metro Centre. These were Debenhams, House of Frazer and M & S. The timings were between the hours of 10:00 to 16:00hrs on 3 separate days. The Detachment Commander, SI Phil Nutley, put this request to the cadets and they all duly volunteered. The cadets even have to make their own way to the Metro Centre.

On each occasion, 15 cadets turned up. The Cadets talked to all that donated and many ex service men stopped and chatted for some time in depth about the better times during their service. Sgt Nutley also had some fantastic comments from the public to the bearing and attitude of all the cadets that attended.

The RBL Poppy collectors who were also in attendance, commented on how well the Cadets had represented their Detachment at Prudhoe, Northumbria County and the Army Cadet Force.

The RBL Coordinator told the cadets that they could have a re imbursement for any expenses (food, travel) that they could have incurred during these collection days. Sgt Nutley said that to his surprise all the cadets declined the kind offer, stating that the money was going to a great cause.
