Surtees Shield 2009
On November 13th the Northumbria ACF Shooting team took part in the Surtees Shield small bore rifle competition, held at Durham TA Centre. The competition is shot by 4 firers, and consists of 3 challenging shoots. The first being a 10rd application on 10 individual spot targets, the second being a rapid shoot where firers get 60 seconds to fire 10rds, and the third is the snap shoot, consisting of five 3 second exposures with a 3 second interval. This year, six teams entered the competition representing the ACF, ATC and SCC.
The team consisted of Sgt Renner Thompson (W Coy), Cpl Homan (W Coy), L/Cpl Moorhead (Y Coy), L/Cpl Oliver (Y Coy) and Cdt Reynard (Y Coy, reserve). After some reduced training time, the team managed to score 777 out of a possible 1000, securing second place in the competition. The winning team were Durham ACF with a score of 806. Records from the previous years show that the scores for all teams have been improving year on year.
If any cadets are interested in shooting for county, let your DC know and they'll receive the dates for the new season in February.
